The University of Bristol is a premier, research-intensive Russell Group institution in the UK, consistently ranked among the world's top 60 universities. Founded in 1876, it is renowned for high-quality education, academic excellence, and a vibrant city-center campus in Bristol, with strong links to industry and high graduate employability. It has strong activity in the area of composire materials, with the largest grouping in Europe of academics (>34) that are primarily engaged in composite research. The National Composites Centre (NCC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University and they are set up to scale bench delivered research to applications in the composites industry.
UoB will develop a bio-based self-healing composite film that will incorporate cellulose nanomaterials from waste biomass, and the polyethyelene materials developed by other partners. These films will be evaluated in terms of their performance as packaging constructs.
